New short story published

Belated news that I had a short story published earlier this year by a small Australian publisher, In Short Publishing. The story is called Boy, Dog, Accordion, and it’s published as a pocket-size book. Yes, one short story in a single book. It’s something I’ve come across occasionally, and I’m not sure why it isn’t done more often in this age of shortening spans of attention and time.

Anyway, here’s the cover image:

I suppose part of the reason I didn’t mention it earlier is that I know most of you are not based in Australia, and this is more of a local thing—the book is available for international shipping, but the cost is very high. And there’s no ebook, which I actually like. The publisher is focused on well-made physical products. But if you happen to find yourself in Melbourne, see if you can spot it in a bookshop there!

I’ve also been pretty busy on my travels (hello from Greece!) and on writing, freelancing, reading and so on. Blogging doesn’t take very long, but still I struggle to find the time—or perhaps, more accurately, the mental energy and space—for it.

This is not an apology: in ten years of blogging, I’ve seen plenty of blogs come and go, and I’m not indulging in the delusion that people are desperately disappointed not to see a new post from me every week. But I think the extent to which I blog (and also comment on other people’s blogs) generally reflects the extent to which I feel either comfortable or overwhelmed by life. Social media also doesn’t help much, eh?

Anyway, hope you’re all doing well. I still appreciate and think about all my regular readers from years gone by, even if I’m not so active these days! Maybe that’ll change, although I’m not setting any targets or deadlines. Blogging should be fun, after all.

  1. Hi, Andrew! Good to know that you’re still there. My husband also has a blog and I know how much time it is needed to keep going. Don’t worry if you cannot do it as often as you’d like to, because there are better thigs to do and life is short. 🙂
