OK, so Amazon’s algorithms don’t always work too well. But I was pleased to see On the Holloway Road being offered with Andrea Levy’s Small Island for £9.93 in the “Frequently Bought Together” category. I also like checking out the “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought…” section for my book. There are some great books in there like Mrs Dalloway and Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, as well as some Julian Barnes, J.G. Ballard, Caryl Phillips and quite a bit of Shakespeare. Interesting to see what people who bought my… Read More
I’m a bit behind the times – this actually happened at the end of last year. But wanted to let you know that my debut novel On the Holloway Road has been digitised and is available as an eBook download, for those of you who are into such things. Personally I prefer the feel of a physical book, although I suspect I’ll be convinced of the merits of electronics readers one day. I certainly like the idea of being able to search an electronic book and instantly find a passage… Read More
OK, I haven’t done any self-promotion on here for a while, so here goes: BUY MY BOOK! BUY MY BOOK! BUY MY BOOK! Thank you. The reason for this outburst is that my publisher is running a special promotion today – if you buy On the Holloway Road through their website, you get entered into a prize draw to win “a hoard of Legend Press books”. Your purchase also counts as a vote for my book – they’re featuring a different book each day throughout December, and the most popular… Read More
On the Holloway Road got a nice review from a fellow writer and blogger, Helen J Beal. I found it particularly encouraging because she hates travelogues and Kerouac, so could have been expected to hate my book! Anyway, the site is worth checking out for more than just the review. It’s a good mix of reviews, poetry and tangential musings.
I’m gettin ready for a talk at Islington North library, just off the Holloway Road, tonight at 6:30pm. I’m a bit nervous to be meeting people who probably know the Holloway Road a lot better than I do. Hope I got it right!
My agent just spotted a great little review of my book in the latest issue of Notes from the Underground:
Thanks to the kind prompting from May, I am finally getting around to writing about my talk and book signing at Hornsey Library last week. Even though it was my local library, I was a bit worried about how many people would turn up to an event for a little-known first-time author, so I was delighted to see all the seats filled. There was even somebody there from Prospero’s Books, the local independent bookshop that’s been really supportive of me and my book from the beginning. If you’re in north… Read More
My first review in a national newspaper! Victoria Moore reviewed On the Holloway Road in the Daily Mail. It’s only a short review, along with two other debut novels, but I like what she wrote. Here’s an excerpt: There are echoes of Jack Kerouac in this freewheeling adventure down the CCTV-ed, drizzly corridors of modern Britain. But really this, too, is a novel about emptiness and failure, and an inability to engage. It’s not the most cheery read, but it does have some glorious sprees. Here’s the full review on… Read More
My book got a small spot in this week’s Time Out, in the “Battle of the Books” feature…
