Bim Literary Festival 2012

In May 2012 I attended the inaugural Bim Literary Festival in Barbados.

I wrote a series of posts about the experience — click on the links below to read each one.

  • Master Class with Derek Walcott (17th May) — Nobel Prize winner Derek Walcott gives a master class to up-and-coming Barbadian poets. The result is quite painful to watch.
  • Austin Clarke interview and reading (17th May) — The Canadian/Barbadian novelist reads from his work-in-progress memoirs and answers questions about his writing influences and the effects of emigration.
  • Earl Lovelace interview and reading (17th May) — At the same event, Trinidadian Earl Lovelace talks about selfhood in his fiction and reads from his latest novel Is Just a Movie.
  • Bim Rock Variations poetry readings at Hastings boardwalk (18th May) — Beachfront readings with Kendel Hippolyte, Lorna Goodison, Courttia Newland and others.
  • Queens Park book fair and readings (19th May) — photos from the Saturday event in the park, with readings, music and book stalls.
